The Sutton Arms - Stockton

I stopped off at the Sutton Arms today for Lunch. It's a pub in Elton (On a map it seems to be almost on the middle point between Middlesbrough and Darlington).

Even on a rainy day like this the place looks nice. The area quiet. I almost his a wide variety of birds on the way there and they didn't even appear fussed in the slightest.

The Sutton Arms has a good menu with a lot of different foods to choose from. Theres something for just about every pallet.

The lunch lunch time specials are a little more limited but for just under £5 you can't go wrong.

I went for Chicken and Yorkshire pudding which came with gravy mash and a roasty for some reason. Maybe the roast potato was meant to be there maybe it wasn't. If it was trying to escape though it failed. The meal also came with some cooked veg comprising of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage.

Now I like my Veg firm and they didn't disappoint. The Yorkshire pudding was crispy and the chicken was moist.

The meal was fantastic. All of it tasting great.
If I was to make one negative comment it would be that the gravy was not as think as I like it but that's a miner thing (I like my gravy so thick it has trouble poring).

The interior doesn't disappoint ether. The place is as quirky as  they come with some of the most unusual collections of things for you to spend time inspecting.

If you get the chance please go. It really is a lovely place.

Tees river - walk

I've just come back from walking down by tees river. On both the Maze Park side the side with the with Portrack marsh.
As it was a great, sunny looking day I grabbed my Nikon Camera along with a 28-300mm zoom and a 10-20mm as well.

It's a nice place to walk. Odd too with so much industry and and the A19 bridge in the background. There are some hill's made of slag (he he slag) which give you an amazing view of the area.

Slide show of the view.

While there I was hoping to get a picture of a Grayling Butterfly but no luck.
I did however get a good, well I hope good at any rate, sequence of shots with a big bird of pray being mobbed by what I think are Crows or Rucks!

I also tried to get some butterfly shots and some of the wading birds.

What I did find interesting was that on the Tees there is a bank with what looked like house martin's nesting there. I'll have to get down there with a bigger lens.

If you do go please keep an eye out for Seals in the river because you do see them from time to time.

Wildlife Trust - volunteer work

I'm off on this sunny Monday from work and to Hardwick Dene (cornforth close. T19 8PZ) to do some voluntary work for the Wildlife Trust.

I'm expecting to be digging around paths and clearing overgrown areas. You know that sort of thing.
On a day like this I'd usually be out with my camera but I'm looking forward to doing something more group orientated today as walking out with your camera taking pictures can be fun but is also not very social.
Then again this may not be ether  :) .
***********************************
I've come back from my day volunteering. from 10:15am til 3:00pm.
We were digging a path and then putting down slag (tiny bits of what is a little like stones)
It's amazing how long it takes to do what looks like a small amount of path.

There were only three of us though.

I'm looking forward to doing this again.

pool hospital

There's a little place that is good for a walk that appears to only be known now to dog walkers and fishermen.
I'm talking about pool hospital!
The hospital may have gone but the pool is still there.
It's a bit uneven under foot but still a nice place to go for a walk.
There is the occasional Heron, Canada goose, Woodpecker and all of the other flora and fauna you'd expect.

I'll put up some pictures as soon as I can just to show how nice it is.

Now is the time to look out for juvenile birds.

Waxwings in nunthorpe?

Ok. I agree that this is not a good picture to be identifying birds by but I'm pretty sure they're waxwings!

I saw them between Nunthorpe and Martan.

Whitby chipshop lemon top seagul beach

It is well known to those who know it well that Whitby does some good fish and chips.

I and a few friends stopped off there not so long ago and went to the QUAYSIDE (they have it in capitals). It's a good place. Well we went to the takeaway bit but still very good.

I mean who wants to eat in on an overcast day when you could be out in the fresh air being stared at be seagulls and watch a tramp talk to himself whilst doing a little dance? Not us apparently.

Plus we found a place that sells lemon top ice creams!
Lemon sorbet on top of ice cream... Good stuff

Looks like someone stole the horizon

Publisher in Middlesbrough

**  Quoin publishing  **

If you live in or around the area of Nunthorpe you may have received, through your door a Now&Then magazine.

It's got some articles in it and adverts for local things. But did you know the printers of the magazine can also print books for you?

If you have an idea and you want to self publish a book they can proof read it (which is an essential thing to have done) and print you out some copies.

I recently had my children's book printed to by them.

their address is:

Middlesbrough Cleveland TS2 1JP

and the phone number is:

guisborough market

I was in Guisborough today to pick up a few things and noticed that the market was on! It's kind of hard to miss when you're there as it takes over the high street.

Guisborough hold market days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

You get fruit and veg sellers (3 packs of strawberries for £1. nice), people selling jackets, dog treats, miscellaneous household items, hats and the Whitby fish van man turns up (or at least he did today). I bought some crab off him. Never had crab.

It's nice to see a high street that's so busy.

Flatts lane

A walk in the woods and bird song. Add a little sun, a light breeze and you can have a relaxing moment to your self.

That is if you can get to some woods... and it's sunny... and there aren't people walking around shouting in a way that suggests a nice soothing lobotomy may be in order.

Just in case, here is a picture with bird song from Flatts Lane woods in the North East of England (Teesside area).

nuthatch

As I was walking in local woodland (Flatts lane woods) I heard and then saw a nut-hatch. I used my phone to record it's song and now I've put it to a quick slideshow of some of my nuthatch photographs

I also have a nuthatch card I'm selling on Etsy at the moment

Nunthorpe shops cafe

A little cafe has just opened around the corner from me.
It's set back in the village shops in Nunthorpe.
It is called the
~ ye old vintage cafe ~

I got talking to the woman who owns the place. She sells cakes which she makes her self.
Frankly anyone who makes butter icing is a winner in my opinion.

From the outside, it looks a bit drab (not including the signs they have put up) but the inside is very colourful and... quaint, in a good way.
It's what I imagine a vintage cafe should look like.
Some of the decor make me think of items you can buy on the Etsy web site.

You can get some light food in there too. I've had scrambled egg on toast in there and some Yorkshire tea.

It's good.
